However, after only a short time back on the court the pain returned, the injury had been reaggravated.

Ultimately, I decided not to play in the remaining games of the season and to try and let my foot heal. A little over a month after the end of the regular season my foot was examined by expert physicians in Munich.

Unfortunately a fatigue fracture was discovered. Apparently I had been playing with a fatigue fracture for several months. Only a few days after the diagnosis I underwent surgery in Tübingen.

Currently I'm rehabbing in my hometown Heidelberg. Surgery went well and I can only look at the upcoming season very optimistically.

I'm really looking forward to playing next season, being healthy and not having to deal with the injury anymore. Sadly, I won't be able to play for the German squad in the first national team window of the summer.

I had been looking forward to it very much — now I'll be rooting for them in front of the screen. Back to last season. In general it was a strange one for all of us in Chicago.

We had a really good and focused training camp. Then, however, at the start of the season, we had a very rough time and nothing was going our way.

One reason for that was that several players who would become extremely important for us during the further course of the season could not participate at the beginning.

In December we finally found our rhythm. We played our best ball of the season in that phase. But it remained a constant up and down the whole season long.

And that wasn't only the case for the team as a whole but also for my injury and me personally. At one point I had a short stint in the G-League.

That was extremely important for me. Because afterwards I was in a way better grove and had a number of strong games for the Bulls.

I can say definitively, that I don't want to experience another season like the last one in many ways. The course of action of many NBA teams — especially near the end of seasons - does not match my ideas.

I play to win. Still, despite all hitches I've become a better player this past year. I've gained important experience and particularly my jump shot has improved.

Next year I'll be back at it with all I've got. In the near future a real highlight will be coming up. I'm very excited about it and will tell you about it in the next blog entry.

Right upon arrival we had the chance to attend the preview of Black Panther. Go check it out, definitely a must watch!

We rented a car together and explored the City and its vicinity. All in all, we had a really relaxed few days in LA. A lot of good food, lots of sun.

We even went into the ocean — in February! On my birthday I treated myself to a new pair of sunglasses at the famous Venice Beach.

We had the time to relax and could spend the day exactly as I had imagined. When we were back in Chicago friends from Germany came to visit.

Maxi and the Mavs also were here shortly after the All-Star break. The night before the game against Dallas all of us went to a bar to play some table tennis.

The evening was a lot of fun and we really enjoyed it. But now to the sport which really counts: We had a lot of completely unnecessary losses.

Our focus for the last weeks of the season will mainly be on the development of the young players. Since the All-Star break Coach Hoiberg has been changing up our starting lineup and rotation every five games.

I personally was in a good groove at the beginning of the year and consistently got my ten to twelve minutes each game.

Then Zach came back after a long absence due to his injury. As a result, I was out of the rotation for the time being. Our coach communicated it to me in a fair and open way, though.

Subsequently I practiced hard, spent plenty of time in the weight room, put up a lot of shots, and worked out individually.

The guys in the rotation kept getting consistent minutes. Therefore, I saw the G League as a good option for me to keep my rhythm.

I played two games in two nights there. That did wonders for my confidence. I made the best of the opportunity until the All-Star break.

Sometimes I was on the floor for 20 minutes sometimes even 30 minutes. After the break I was having troubles with my foot and had to sit out several games.

First of all, I hope that you had a Merry Christmas and have started the new year off well. Last season, for example, we were in San Antonio on the 24th and 25th.

Sure, Christmas in a different city and with your teammates can be nice, too. This year we were lucky and the schedule was more favorable for us.

After our road game in Boston on the 23rd we flew straight back to Chicago. On Christmas Eve we had a regular practice in the morning before having the rest of the day off.

My sister Anne was here to visit. Naturally, I really enjoyed that. Anne, Mira, and I had a lovely celebration in German tradition on the 24th.

On the 25th we had the whole day off and we went outside for a bit. But not for too long — it was freezing up here in Chicago, after all.

So we went to the cinema and watched the new Star Wars movie. This Episode was much more to my liking than the last one.

Afterwards we headed straight back to Chicago. In Illinois the city arranges a fireworks display of about 20 minutes.

There, everybody can launch their own private fireworks and firecrackers. For that I miss Germany. After three losses early in December we won ten of the remaining 13 games.

Overall we had a really good month. We defended well for the most part and could then utilize our strengths. Our quick guys went off in transition and frequently we got easy buckets.

Now we have to maintain this kind of focus and keep taking it one game at a time. I get similar minutes every game and I know my role.

Currently, several of our players are on a roll offensively. Defensively I have to step it up a notch. Against supposedly better players I perform considerably better.

I know their game and what they are trying to do. With supposedly easier matchups, however, I struggle too often. I have to keep working on that.

I hope you all had a great start to the new year and wish you all the best for the upcoming months. Keep your fingers crossed for the Bulls and me.

Now, that has changed. And it is a lot of fun! After the blowout loss at Golden State at the end of November we knew that something had to change.

At the beginning we could keep the games close but were still losing. But for a while now we have been concentrated and have been playing good basketball.

We are clicking right now! We have a game plan — and we execute it well. Even when we change something during the course of the game — most of the time it works.

Everybody knows their role and fills it. We defend hard, communicate well, and fight for each other. We turn our good defense into offense and push the tempo.

On top of that we have several players who are simply playing good basketball right now. We are hitting tough shots — that makes things easier, of course.

Right now, we are highly motivated. I personally feel much better, too — physically and mentally. At the start of the season I was trying to force some things.

And as a result, my performance decreased. I had no rhythm.
